About Basecamp Business

Basecamp Business was founded by Mel Baiada in 2007 to help entrepreneurs connect with the people, resources, and knowledge they need to start and grow their business.

Most first-time entrepreneurs are subject matter experts, who know their industry but have no experience in what it takes to start and grow a business.  As a result, every startup struggles with the same questions and makes the same mistakes.

As a successful entrepreneur himself and as an advisor and investor with many other startups, Mel felt the whole process of starting and growing a business was inefficient and set out to reinvent what he called the “entrepreneurial ecosystem.”  His inspiration has led to Basecamp Business, with web-based tools to increase the likelihood of entrepreneurial success.

In addition to this event calendar, Basecamp Business has created the Maestro interaction platform.  Maestro contains a suite of tools to help entrepreneurs be as successful as possible. It connects entrepreneurs with the trusted network of experts and mentors associated with an incubator or technology center. Maestro provides collaborative workspaces for teams to share files, engage in threaded discussions, create and track goals. Maestro's Knowledge Library is a user submitted library of business books, videos, blog posts, and websites. All the content is user rated, categorized, and easily searchable.  Unlike many generalized collaborative tools, Maestro is purpose-built to serve the needs of startup companies.

We look forward to continuing to deliver valuable web-based tools to entrepreneurs that help make this region a natural place to start and grow a business.

About the Basecamp Business Calendar

Basecamp Business worked closely with organizations throughout the region to create a regional calendar of networking events, conferences, seminars, and forums – all for the entrepreneurial community.  There are over 200 organizations with events in the calendar, which you can easily search or filter by event subject matter, host organization, date or date range, zip code proximity, or keyword. In addition, it has an alert feature, where you can specify your interests and receive weekly recommendations of upcoming events via email.

As a broad-based, inclusive regional calendar, we list as many business-oriented events as possible.  In the last six months, we have listed nearly 2,000 events:

  • 373 dealing with Entrepreneurship
  • 365 on Small Business issues
  • 120 focusing on Life Sciences
  • 155 events on Angel, Seed, Venture, or other sources for Funding a startup

Use us to find the events that matter.

Mission and Vision

The mission of the Basecamp Business Calendar is three-fold:

  • To promote greater interaction among people and greater sharing of ideas
  • To help entrepreneurs find the resources and people they need to start and grow their businesses
  • To serve as a connecting point in the creation of new businesses in the region

The calendar is not about the events.  It is about connecting people, finding resources, and sharing knowledge.

Our vision is to become the one, best place in the region to find and post business-related events, so that you don’t have to go looking in hundreds of places to find out what is happening.  We hope to become your trusted guide to events and happenings are useful, compelling, and informative.

A Tool for Promoting Your Events

For those who are hosting events, we give you the tools to set-up, promote, and manage your events.  You can use the calendar to pick the right day for your event, avoiding conflicts with other events trying to reach the same audience.  Submitting your event is free, though we do offer enhanced listings for a fee.  We can also help take RSVPs for free or collect paid registration fees for a small service charge.  We can even link to other Event Registration systems.

You can add our Calendar Widget on your own website with an annual subscription.  A few clicks of a mouse to tell us what sorts of events you want to appear on your site, and we’ll give you a few lines of code that you can embed into your website.  That’s all it takes.  With the Widget, you can choose to highlight any event in the calendar – whether your own event or someone else’s – so that people see those events first thing when they come to your calendar page.

Founding Sponsors

The Basecamp Business Calendar is made possible through the generosity of our Founding Sponsors:

  • The Mid-Atlantic Capital Alliance
  • Select Greater Philadelphia
  • The Science Center
  • Ben Franklin Technology Partners, Southeast Pennsylvania
  • Delaware Economic Development Office

These organizations recognized early on that the Basecamp Business calendar represented an important first step in a collaborative effort to build a region-wide awareness of community resources.  Over time, this effort will lead to better connections between businesses and ultimately to growing entrepreneurial activity in the region.
